The Benefits of Starting Writing Classes Earlier
Of course, getting a writing instructor for help in grade 12 English is beneficial. If possible, however, it is advised that students start writing lessons earlier.
When students begin writing classes in middle school or early high school, they can develop foundational writing skills that will prepare them for the more advanced level assignments in their senior high school and post-secondary years. During these earlier years, students face less pressure to meet deadlines—which means more flexibility to practice a variety of writing and more time to review and assimilate content.

A longer period dedicated to learning to write well enables students to develop the writing independence needed to do future academic work.
Introductory, Intermediate, and Advanced Levels are offered for all writing classes.

Write Well Studio will assess the student's writing abilities in the initial classes and determine the most suitable content and level for the student.

Vocabulary Development
For homework, students are encouraged to do the Wordly Wise workbook series, which offers systematic vocabulary development. Completed homework is checked by the teacher during class. Each workbook lesson also includes a reading passage with questions for READING COMPREHENSION practice.
Composition Writing (Foundations)
There is writing that is foundational to any English curriculum, including writing paragraphs, research papers, expository and persuasive essays, summaries, narratives, and poetry. Students will be guided through all phases of the writing process for each type of writing, which include brainstorming, organizing, writing, revising, and polishing their works. For motivated students desiring mastery, they will be given writing assignments with more challenging academic requirements.
Composition Writing (Advanced)
Students demonstrating an aptitude for writing can be given assignments that demand more complex structures and thought, such as argumentative essays, personal narrative essays, comparison and contrast essays, definition essays, research papers (incorporating senior level secondary resource requirements), literary analyses, critical response essays, and book and film reviews.
By engaging in more advanced writing, students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills necessary for post-secondary education.

Through the above assignments, students will learn different methods of paragraph development, elements of persuasion (rhetorical devices), and common fallacies in argumentation (i.e., over-generalizing, using terms carelessly, debating with unproven assumptions, making misleading comparisons, etc.).

Grammar & Punctuation
Seldom do schools teach grammar or teach grammar effectively. Write Well Studio believes that having a strong grasp of grammar rules is essential to writing success. So much of the struggle with writing lies in the inability to express an idea correctly. Knowing grammar is as essential to writing as memorizing the multiplication table for math.
Sentence Structure (Foundations)
A typical school assignment rubric includes an evaluation of a student's ability to write with sentence variety. Essential to developing good writing skills is using a variety of standard sentence structures. Students will be introduced to these structures, learn when to apply them, identify them in professional writing, and imitate them.
Stylistic Writing (Advanced)
It is one thing to learn to write sentences correctly and another thing to write sentences artfully. Once a student has demonstrated a strong grasp of grammar and standard sentence structures, the student is ready to learn how to style and craft sentences for beauty and sophistication. Essays, speeches, and answers to university application questions benefit from developing mastery of these advanced writing skills.
Reading & Writing about Literature
Write Well Studio offers in-depth studies in a rich selection of poetry, short stories, and novels featuring meaningful themes and beautiful writing. Studying powerfully-written literature inspires good writing and sparks worthwhile discussions about universal issues concerning life and human behaviour. Writing assignments include personal responses (i.e., journal entries), critical reviews, and literary analyses.
